Sailors Feast

Honfleur has always been a harbor with traditions related to sailors. Pentecost Week-End (Sunday and Monday) is dedicated to the Sailors Feast in Honfleur. The celebration of Sea Benediction is one of the best periods to visit Honfleur and appreciate French traditions and folklore.

Although fishing boats tend to become scarce, the Sea Benediction remains in the traditions of the City: Fishing boats, but also sailing ships are decked with flags for the occasion. The benediction is supposed to give prosperity and protection to the ship for the coming year. Ships come to Honfleur from all over the region, but also from overseas for the event .

The day after, there is a traditional pilgrimage to the Chapel of Notre-Dame de Grāce on the hill. Sailors and fishermen are joined with children who parade in the streets of Honfleur with ships' models.

At the chapel is celebrated a mass for sailors, followed by a fun fair.

Next sailors Feast on May 27 & 28th 2007.
